Cellulose ether is commonly used in the fields of insulation mortar masterbatch, putty powder, asphalt roads and gypsum products, and have the ability to improve and enhance the characteristics of building materials and enhance the stability of production and construction suitability. The following is an introduction to the considerations caused by cellulose when using putty powder.
(1) The more water is added to the putty powder, the thinner it becomes.
Cellulose is used as a thickener and water-retaining agent in putty powders because of its thixotropic properties. These thixotropic properties are caused by the disruption of the loosely bound structure of the components of the putty powder. These structures are created at rest and disintegrate under stress.
(2) The putty is sinking during the scraping process.
This is usually due to the high viscosity of the cellulose used. The recommended additions for interior wall putty are 3-5KG and a viscosity of 8-10 million.
(3) The viscosity of cellulose is not the same in winter and in summer with the same viscosity.
Because of the thermal gelation of cellulose, the viscosity of the putty and mortar will gradually decrease with the increase of temperature. When the temperature exceeds the gel temperature of the cellulose, the cellulose will precipitate out of the water and lose its viscosity. It is recommended to choose a product with a higher viscosity or to increase the intake of cellulose in summer. The gel temperature of methyl cellulose is around 55°C. If the temperature is slightly higher, the viscosity will be affected.
In summary, cellulose is the best choice for use in putty powders and other applications, as it improves fluidity, reduces density, has good air permeability and is environmentally friendly.
