Mixing tile adhesive with cement

1. What is tile adhesive

Tile adhesive is also called ceramic tile adhesive. It is mainly used to paste decorative materials such as tiles, facing tiles, floor tiles, etc. It is widely used in the finishing decoration places of buildings such as internal and external walls, floors, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.
Tile adhesive itself contains an appropriate amount of cement components.
It is scientifically formulated on the basis of cement with various additives such as enhancing adhesion and enhancing flexibility.
Tile adhesive has been widely used in Western developed countries for decades. Its development abroad has entered a mature stage. Developed countries have long used tile adhesive to replace cement mortar for tile laying.
Its main features are high bonding strength, water resistance, good freeze-thaw resistance and aging resistance, and convenient construction. The adhesive bonding force is several times that of cement mortar. It is a very ideal bonding material.

2. Misunderstandings in the use of tile adhesive

Misunderstanding 1: Tile adhesive is glue.

Just listening to the name-tile adhesive, many people may think it is cement plus glue. In fact, tile adhesive is not glue, and its main component is still cement.
It is made of high-quality cement, graded quartz sand and a variety of polymers, and is a safe and environmentally friendly product. It does not contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde and benzene.

Misunderstanding 2: Cement and mortar are mixed in tile adhesive.

Like the case mentioned above, cement is mixed in tile adhesive. It seems that the amount of materials has been increased and it is cheap, but it actually causes great losses.
The reason is that tile adhesive relies on the intermolecular force generated by special additives in the product to firmly adhere to the tiles. Adding cement at will will change the formula of the product. It will reduce the bonding force and cannot guarantee the quality of the product.

Misunderstanding 3: Use it for too long, add new glue and mix it for use.

Some people will mix the tile adhesive left over from the previous day with clean water and tile adhesive powder the next morning. In fact, the effective ingredients of tile adhesive have already reacted chemically. Adding water only changes the operating performance. It will lead to insufficient bonding strength in the later stage. Tile adhesive should be used as soon as it is stirred. The use time is controlled within 2 hours. It should be discarded after drying.

Misunderstanding 4: The area of one-time scraping glue is too large.

In dry and windy weather outdoors, the area of scraping glue is too large. The construction is too late to cause the surface to dry. Re-laying tiles will cause tiles to fall off. Use a toothed scraper to evenly scrape the glue on the work surface. Each construction is about 1 square. The wall surface should be pre-moistened in dry outdoor climates.

Misunderstanding 5: Directly paste tiles without leveling.
Because the base strength is low and there is oil pollution, it will directly affect the adhesion of the tile adhesive. It will cause hollowing and falling tiles. The wall surface is not strong, and the base surface is easy to delaminate and fall off. The wall surface is not flat, and the defects are too large, resulting in inadequate contact between the tile and the wall surface. It is easy to cause hollowing.

Misunderstanding 6: Filling the seams with tile adhesive

Tile adhesive and caulking agent are both building materials. However, tile adhesive can only be used to paste the back of the tile. If tile adhesive is used to fill the seams, it will block the shrinkage joints of the floor tiles. Cause the floor tiles to bulge due to heat. It is easy to hollow and fall off. Therefore, special caulking agent or caulking agent should be used for filling the seams.

3. Paving method

△The construction wall surface should be moist (wet outside and dry inside). And maintain a certain degree of flatness. Uneven or extremely rough areas should be leveled with cement mortar and other materials.
△ The base must be free of dust, oil, and wax to avoid affecting the adhesion.
△ The tiles can be moved and corrected within 5 to 15 minutes after pasting. The water-cement ratio is about 1:4. The adhesive should be used up within 5 to 6 hours after mixing evenly (when the temperature is around 20 degrees).
△ Apply the mixed adhesive to the back of the pasted brick and press hard. Until it is flat. The actual consumption varies depending on the material. Generally, at least 4.5 to 6 kilograms per square meter, and the thickness of the paste is about 2 to 3 mm.
