Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is a core thickening additive for architectural coatings and wall putties in construction. Cold water instant HEC upgrades conventional HEC, and their spec differences decide dissolution and construction compatibility strictly.
First and foremost, core differences lie in particle morphology and mesh index.
Conventional HEC is regular powder with 92% 80-mesh pass rate and no special surface treatment at all. Cold water instant HEC is granulated fine particles with ≥95% 80-mesh and 45%+140-mesh pass rate plus a surface dispersion layer.
Additionally, dissolution performance indicators show obvious and distinct differences between the two HEC types.
Conventional HEC takes over 30 mins to dissolve in cold water, with low rate, easy agglomeration and possible high-speed stirring flocculation. Cold water instant HEC dissolves in cold water within 10 mins with ≥98% dispersion rate and no need for heating or pre-dispersion treatment. It maintains uniform dispersion even under the condition of high-speed mechanical stirring.
